The K-Lite Mega Codec Pack is the originator of the decoder package. It can

1. Download the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack installation package (5.8.3 9.9.5).
Here is an installation package, double-click to run (direct open) to start the
installation process. A security warning may pop up in Windows when opening
this installation package, as shown in Figure 0 below, because this
installation package does not have a valid certificate. The installation
package downloaded from here is relatively safe, just click the "Run"
button.

2. Start the installation. Figure 1. There is nothing to say here, go
directly to Next > go to the next step. When the revision was

3. Select the installation mode. Figure 2 below is taken with the K-Lite

There are three modes to choose from:
Simple mode: Provides fewer customization options (selectable player,
device speaker type), most options are set by default
General mode: All options (optional whether to install Media Player Classic
player), default installation location
Advanced mode: all options, optional installation location
Choose one as needed. Let's take "Advanced Mode" as an example,
because its steps include all the steps in the previous two modes. So, if you

4. Select the installation location. The default is to install in the
default program folder of the Windows system. Look at your habits and change
them all the same. If you want to change it, click the button in the middle
right of the figure below to browse and select the installation location. Then
click Next > below .

5. Select the component as shown below. MPC (Media Player Classic) is a
very popular player with multi-platform support. In fact, look at their own
habits, depending on your needs, decide whether you want to deselect the red
circle in the picture. The default is selected.
No other components need to be modified, keep the default, and then Next >
go to the next step.

example, Profile 2 selected here does not install the player, others are

8, hardware acceleration (Hardware Acceleration) . This situation is a bit
more complicated and may vary slightly depending on the computer configuration.
If your computer has a separate graphics card, you can choose the option that
has a separate graphics card name. The discrete graphics card is currently
NVIDIA or AMD (or ATI). Using hardware acceleration helps ease the stress on
the CPU. However, the current computer CPU is very powerful, and you usually
don't do other work when you watch the movie, so it is good even if you don't
change it at this step. Moreover, even if hardware acceleration is not set
here, but only using Softwre decoding (software decoding, which is calculated
by the CPU), hardware acceleration can be set in the player later.
My computer is an Intel CPU built-in graphics card and NVIDIA discrete
graphics dual card configuration, so I changed it to LAV Video – NVIDIA CUVID
as shown. If you don't want to use a discrete graphics card and just use a CPU
built-in graphics card, you can choose Intel QuickSync.

9. Select the player you want to associate , as shown. Of course, choose
our own preferred player, such as KMPlayer. (Well, I recently changed to
PotPlayer.)
Some people also use PotPlayer. If you are using a PotPlayer that is used
directly after decompression, it is estimated that the PotPlayer item will not
be displayed.
So, if you haven't installed KMPlayer yet, or if the commonly used player
isn't listed here, it doesn't matter, the normal player will automatically call
the installed and available decoder.

10. File association.
There are two situations:
If a player is selected in the previous step, the file association here
will be associated with the player;
If you did not select any player in the previous step, this step is not
displayed and you skip to the next step.
If you choose KMPlayer, select the file association for the player we just
selected (KMPlayer), which is the type of file you want to play with KMPlayer.
On the left is the video file, it is recommended to directly check the box
above to achieve the full selection; the right is the audio file, it is
